Cloth Dipe Information Here are some common terms in the world of cloth diapering!
All in One Diaper (AIO)- as close to disposable as you can get without throwing it away!
Pocket diaper- waterproof outer layer with fleece or absorbent material sewn onto it with a "pocket" between the two to stuff inserts
One-size diaper (OS)- diaper that is adjustable to fit most babies from birth to potty (7 lbs to 35 lbs)
COVER The waterproof portion of your diaper system usually made of PUL (polyurethane laminate)
DOUBLER: extra absorbency added to diapers for nighttime or nap time or heavy wetters
SOAKER: refers to the middle or absorbent layer or a diaper or a wool or fleece cover, which are water resistant rather than water proof
FITTED: diaper that is contoured and usually closes with snaps or hook & loops (like Velcro), can be AIO or require a cover
FLEECE: refers to polyester fleece, used for covers and liners and skirties, shorties, and longies for fitted diapers.
HEMP: Hemp is a course fiber made from the inner bark of the hemp plant. It is becoming increasingly popular for use in diapers because of its durability, absorbency and natural anti-microbial properties.
SHERPA: Sherpa Terry is knit terry fabric, just like a baby towel, that has been brushed and washed to raise the fibers and give a fluffy super soft feel.
MICROFIBER- mostly used with inserts
BAMBOO: Becoming increasingly popular. Cloth wipes and the inner of the dipes use Bamboo because of its antibacterial properties.
WOOL: made of natural fleece, used for covers; requires special care.
